Description : 
The mission of International Education (IE) is to embrace world cultures and global perspectives, engage international and domestic students, and empower all students with global learning opportunities through co-curricular activities and programs
. The vision of IE is to provide a transformative learning experience to nurture world citizens and future leaders in local and global contexts.
 

IE will hire one 50% -time or two 25% -time pre-professional graduate assistants (PGA) to fill programming support needs, from August 16, 2022 - May 15, 2023. There are possibilities of summer appointment as a graduate hourly at the rate of approximately $15 per hour, depending on experience.

IE PGA provides students an opportunity to undertake creative and challenging assignments that provide a greater understanding of higher education administration, and international education in particular. The PGA will work on programs that promote educational, social and cultural understanding for students and members of the University and Champaign-Urbana communities. Graduate assistants will assist in many aspects of the daily operations and administration of International Education, including weekly events, break programs, outreach, and campus collaborative programs. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a schedule of 10/20 hours of work per week, depending on the percentage of appointments. 

  • Duties may include a combination of the following areas, depending on applicant’s interests and skills: 

- Assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating programs of International  

 - Education which supports engagement between domestic and international students 

- Assist in developing, facilitating, and overseeing workshops supporting international  students 

- Assist in assessing programs to identify needs and evaluate learning outcomes  

- Other International Education related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in any graduate program at UI during the period August 2022 – May 2023 

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and independently with a high degree of initiative 

  • Experience in intercultural communication 

  • Study abroad experiences preferred, but not required  

  • Professional experience and/or academic specialization in international student/education issues preferred, but not required

 

Compensation

Commensurate with current UIUC policies on graduate student stipends and waivers. All applicants will be required to fill out a FAFSA form to assess eligibility for Federal Work Study Assistantships.
