Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

SCD seeks a dynamic and motivated graduate student to join the marketing team at the Siebel Center for Design as the Website Experience Graduate Assistant. This person will work closely with the SCD marketing team on website development and content strategies, and collaborate with the entire SCD team to ensure is accurate, up to date, user friendly, and contains the information we need to share about SCD. 
This position will be responsible for updating content, improving upon the site’s information architecture, and developing new pages for the site based on input from the SCD marketing team. This person will work closely with graphic designers, photographers, and the communications team to coordinate content creation and design layouts for our site. 
Additionally, they will use a content management system to manage the SCD website, so no coding is required. Ideal candidates are interested in making a website look great, by having an intuitive user interface, interesting content, smart layouts, and easy-to-find information. Applicants should be confident and capable communicators, creative problem solvers, and are excited to take ownership of the SCD website.


  • Updating existing content and adding new content to the SCD website using the Grainger College of Engineering’s content management system “Site Manager”
  • Coordinating and implementing a development strategy for the SCD website, in collaboration with the SCD marketing team
  • Reviewing and editing on desktop and mobile interfaces to ensure content is accurate, up to date, and the site is functioning properly
  • Reviewing website user interviews to inform design updates, layout improvements and site architecture updates


  • Experience with website interface development, or using a content management system to create blogs, websites, or apps
  • Education or experience in visual communications, user interface design, human-computer interaction, or a related field of study

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with website content management systems, such as WordPress or Weebly
  • Experience with remote collaboration tools and software, including Slack, Google Drive, and Zoom 
  • Understanding of or interest in learning about human-centered design or design thinking
