A completed application should include the following items:
The Personal Statement should discuss your interest in the Summer Predoctoral Institute at the University of Illinois and the reasons why you feel it important to participate. The narrative should also include the following:
- Your prospective program, or field of study, and the relationship of that field to your future plans.
- Personal benefits to be gained from participating in this summer experience.
- A discussion about how your underrepresented status has influenced your academic pursuits, particularly the pursuit of the doctorate in your chosen field of study.
- A discussion about the your academic preparation, including awards, honors, presentations, publications, and research projects
This form must be initiated by you and submitted by your graduate program department at the University of Illinois for your participation in the Summer Predoctoral Institute.
Step 1: You must complete the "applicant fields" and forward the form to your appropriate department contact.
Step 2: Your Department Chair, Graduate Program Director, or Graduate Program Advisor will forward this form and their letter (which can be in the form of an email) of Departmental Support to I-SPI@illinois.edu. The letter can also be printed on official letterhead with an original or copied signature and be sent via email to the address above. In both cases, the subject line of the email should state “Departmental Letter of Support for <student’s name>”
