Description

International Programs in Engineering (IPENG) and Grainger First Year Experience (GFX) seek an energetic, organized, and detail-oriented graduate student. This position focuses on working alongside IPENG & GFX staff to coordinate and assess global classrooms and short-term faculty-led programs for first-year engineering students. The individual hired will assist with student applications and required study abroad processes, including communicating expectations, collecting key data, and organizing workshops and classroom visits with IPENG staff. Individuals should also be able to assist with literature review, data analysis, and focus groups to assess global programming for first year students. There will be an opportunity to work on additional small projects as well. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work in an environment that can be collaborative, as well as independent.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop a universal template/content for global classroom and short-term faculty-led courses that instructors can incorporate into their learning management system (Canvas or other).
  • Manage and create content for the in-development website for instructors engaging in global classrooms and short-term faculty-led programming.
  • Assist in writing standard operating procedures as well as policies for global classrooms and short-term faculty-led programs.
  • Assist with communication and recruitment of students into the ENG 177 global classrooms and short-term faculty led programs.
  • Schedule workshops, classroom visits, and focus groups in collaboration with other Undergraduate Program Office (UPO) units.
  • Complete review of passports, social media consent forms, and other applicant data for mobility programs.
  • Participate in regular staff and faculty community of practice meetings to develop understanding of global programming.
  • Conduct literature reviews and perform data analysis on global classrooms and short-term programming.
  • Administer global classroom and short-term faculty-led surveys through Qualtrics or other appropriate survey software.
  • Present summary data to IPENG and GFX staff regarding past programming and research results.
  • Provide weekly progress updates to supervisors.
  • Meet regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) with supervising IPENG and GFX staff members.
  • Assist occasionally with after hour and weekend events.
  • Other duties and projects assigned as necessary.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled graduate student.
  • Must be able to dedicate 20 hours per week during regular business hours Monday-Friday, with the possibility of occasional weekend and after hour commitments.
  • Must be in good academic standing and uphold university student code of conduct.
  • Must be able to work a mixed schedule of remote and in-person.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Grainger Student Portal, and Google web-based software
  • Ability to use and apply various data analysis methods on focus group and survey data.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sounds judgements in a fast-paced environment

Compensation

This position will be a 50% graduate assistantship appointment between IPENG & GFX.
