Description:
International Programs in Engineering (IPENG) is seeking an energetic, organized, and detail oriented graduate student. This position focuses on working alongside IPENG staff in leading and mentoring undergraduate students in our Global Engineering Ambassador (GEA) program and managing the ZJUI Illinois Connections Initiative (ICI). Global Engineering Ambassadors curate programming for incoming exchange students to the Grainger College of Engineering and help recruit Illinois students to participate in Grainger study abroad programming. The individual hired will oversee and assist all programming for the GEA program, support and relay student and GEA concerns back to IPENG, facilitate the ZJUI ICI and provide additional programmatic support to the ZJUI program. There will be an opportunity to work on additional small projects as well. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work in an environment that can be collaborative, as well as independent at times.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties
- Position will work in partnership with the GEA’s to complete tasks assigned by IPENG supervisor.
- Assist the GEA students by mentoring their programming and contributing to their success.
- Serve as a liaison between the ZJUI ICI and the program coordinators of ZJUI.
- Manage ZJUI ICI through the Canvas page including grading homework assignments and the final essay as well as support and follow-up with students enrolled in the program.
- Schedule and plan the following events for ICI: Welcome Event, Coffee with the Deans, and the Closing Event.
- Assist in ZJUI incoming exchange application review process.
- Prepare Academic Training letters for ZJUI students for ZJUI program coordinators to review.
- Gather study abroad course articulation reviews and perform travel information verification as assigned by IPENG supervisor.
- Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Meet regularly with supervising IPENG staff member.
- Serve as primary contact and meeting regularly with GEA’s and Lead GEA to coordinate events and staffing.
- Create and manage events in Grainger Student Portal for both GEA’s and IPENG events.
- Assist GEA’s occasionally with after hour and weekend events.
- Facilitate study abroad 101 presentations to Illinois students when needed.
- Review and respond to study abroad inquiries through Grainger Student Portal.
- Present summary data to IPENG staff regarding programming and duties completed.
- Assess GEA programming and make recommendations to IPENG on what to continue.
Technology
- Utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Grainger Student Portal, Terra Dotta Systems, as well as Google web-based software.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled graduate student.
- Must be able to dedicate 20 hours per week during regular business hours Monday-Friday, with the possibility of occasional weekend and after hour commitments.
- Must be in good academic standing and uphold university student code of conduct.
- Must be able to work a mixed schedule of remote and in-person.
Compensation
This position will be a 50% graduate assistantship appointment.
