Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications
LAS Career Services works with current and prospective students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to connect the skills they gain in their LAS major to the world around them. We help students develop lifelong career decision-making and management skills as they explore their interests, discover opportunities, make connections with working professionals in fields that interest them, and prepare for life after college.
The LAS Career Services Graduate Assistant supports internship courses offered by LAS Career Services instructors, including LAS 302 (a 1 – 3 credit, in-person internship course with large group sessions and the possibility of facilitating small mentoring groups) and LAS 199/LAS 289 (0 credit hour, asynchronous course designed to support CPT and unpaid internships). Graduate students also contribute to enhancing career services resources and programming. Specific projects vary depending on the background and interests of the student. Example projects include:
- Supporting the update of educational materials posted to Canvas to meet evolving accessibility standards
- Curating materials in the LAS Career Services resource library, and helping to strategically expand the collection
- Creating and maintaining resource guides and educational materials
This is a 33% Graduate Assistantship, with approximately 13 hours worked per week. Candidates must be available to work on Tuesdays from 5 – 7pm during the fall and spring terms, which is when the LAS 302 class meets. Otherwise, there is much flexibility in setting a work schedule.
Position Dates: August 25, 2025 – May 15, 2026 (negotiable)
Eligibility:
- Be a current graduate student in the College of LAS by Fall 2025
- Be in good academic standing at the time of application and throughout your appointment
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of experiential learning (e.g., internships, undergraduate research, volunteer / service) during college
- Genuine interest in supporting career exploration journeys of liberal arts and sciences students
- Some experience with teaching and/or developing education materials is preferred
- Be available to work on Tuesdays from 5 – 7pm during the fall and spring semester in order to support the LAS 302 class
Compensation
