Job Description
Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts and Sciences (ATLAS) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) seeks a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Learning Management System (LMS) Support to assist faculty, students, and staff with Moodle, Canvas, and related instructional technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and collaboration.
This position is ideal for an enthusiastic and self-motivated graduate student with an interest in educational technology, online learning environments, and user support.
Applicants must be a graduate student in a master’s program under LAS or in a PhD program at UIUC. Students pursuing a master’s degree in other colleges are welcome to apply but priority will be given to those in LAS or in PhD programs.
Up to 20 hours per week (50% time), hybrid
Responsibilities
- Provide LMS support and training to LAS faculty, students, and staff using Moodle, Canvas, and other educational technologies, including troubleshooting, course setup, and gradebook configuration.
- Monitor support ticket queue daily, answering LMS-related questions.
- Offer individual consultations and group training sessions on effective use of Moodle and Canvas for teaching and learning.
- Provide assistance at the ATLAS help desk in LCLB G89, including both LMS and classroom technology support.
- Create articles for a technical support knowledge base to assist end users.
- Provide digital accessibility support, helping faculty use tools such as Pope Tech to create accessible course content in Canvas and Moodle.
- Support LTI tools integrated in Canvas and Moodle (e.g. Zoom, Turnitin, and ProctorU).
- Contribute to special projects supporting teaching and learning technologies within LAS.

Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly.
- Skilled in analyzing and troubleshooting both software and hardware problems.
- Excellent customer service and the ability to communicate technical information, both written and verbal, to non-technical users.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Demonstrated experience using a Learning Management System (Moodle or Canvas preferred).
- Dependability, timeliness, and flexibility in scheduling and work assignments.
- Ability to handle sensitive data responsibly.
- Experience working with diverse communities of people.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Ability to work within ATLAS TLT hours of operation, which are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (includes 6-8 hours per week on-site at the LCLB G89 help desk).
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Moodle or Canvas, either as an instructor or providing technical support and training.
- Familiarity with LTI integrations and course content migration between LMS platforms.
- Understanding of digital accessibility principles and tools for creating accessible course content.
- Experience in web design and authoring with HTML.
Compensation
Commensurate with Illinois Human Resources policies on graduate student employment.
