The Center for Writing Studies is now accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Fall 2026 and this appointment typically runs for three semesters. This graduate student position is typically a 33% appointment each semester. However, the appointment length and percentage can be negotiated depending on individual circumstances.
Assistant Director duties are performed online, both synchronously and asynchronously, and in person. These duties may include:
- Designing and leading Writing Across the Curriculum workshops (including the WAC TA Seminar held each semester, specialized workshops like the Multimodal Pedagogy Seminar, and individual WAC events focused on specific topics)
- Organizing, facilitating, and advertising CWS events (including brownbags, Graduate Research Forum talks, and colloquia with visiting speakers)
- Supporting instructors and facilitating instructional meetings for the CWS-listed course INFO/WRIT 303: Writing Across Media
- Maintaining the online presence of CWS (including updating the website, Twitter, Facebook, and managing listservs)
- Managing and coordinating CWS-sponsored reading and working groups (including the Data Workshop Group, Social Justice Praxis Group, Writing Bodies, and Cultural Historical Activity Theory Chat)
- Promoting CWS both internally (to university stakeholders) and externally (to prospective students)
- Curricular consulting with individual instructors and programs
- When in person, maintaining the CWS office in English Building 288
- Other duties as assigned by the CWS Director
