Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

This is a LIVE- IN POSITION: Disability Liaisons split the responsibilities to fulfill the position responsibilities. 

POSITION:

The Beckwith Residential Support Services (BRSS) Disability Liaison (DL) position is a 0.375 FTE Pre-Professional Graduate Assistantship (in-state tuition & fee waiver) for which the College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS), Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES)/Beckwith Residential Support Services (BRSS) and University Housing provides room and board at Nugent Hall and a monthly stipend. Duties begin in August and continue through May. 

FUNCTION:

The DLs support BRSS administrative staffing nights and weekends and assists in supervising, mentoring, developing and maintaining a positive community environment. The DLs organize monthly programs for BRSS residents to attend (bowling, friendsgiving, movie nights, etc.). The DLs may also need to assist BRSS residents with their personal care (dressing, bathing, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Acceptance into graduate school at time of application. Perform duties of a Personal Assistant when necessary. Pass a criminal background check. DLs must be able to work independently and must be dependable, reliable, and responsible. 

Preferred: Graduate student in a disability-related field of study, and experience in organized group living (including residence halls, fraternities, sororities, or related living environment.

DESCRIPTION:

This position will support administrative coverage weeknights (M-F) 5pm to 8am, and weekends starting 5pm Friday to 8am Monday. Coverage will be split amongst the 4 DLs. While on Duty, you must stay at SDRP and conduct rounds on the Beckwith floor to check in on residents and staffing. You may be asked to troubleshoot equipment, ensure staffing has arrived, step in as a personal assistant, etc. When not assisting, sleeping, homework, hanging with friends at SDRP etc. is allowed. DLs also coordinate and "host" events and update the bulletin board for our community monthly. 

IMPORTANT DATES:

DLs are asked to join Summer Immersion Program (June 26th to 30th), not required but highly encouraged. DLs must be able to come to campus 2 weeks prior to school starting in August for training. DLs must stay until BRSS closes for breaks (usually the first Saturday of break) and be available for open (usually the Saturday or Sunday before classes begin again).
