Telehealth / 24-7 Services
If you feel you need to reach out to a counselor or healthcare provider, here are some ways to do so:
- The Counseling Center has clinicians available during business hours for same-day urgent meetings without an appointment. If possible, we request you call 217-333-3704 to let us know you're on your way. Our same-day urgent meetings are brief (15-30 minute) one-time meetings for students feeling overwhelming distress such as thoughts of harming themselves or others or having experienced a recent traumatic event. If you need to talk to someone after hours, please call the Rosecrance Crisis Line at 217-359-4141 to speak with a local mental health clinician.
- McKinley Dial-a-Nurse is available by calling 217-333-2700. Dial-A-Nurse is a 24/7 telephone service that lets you speak with a healthcare professional to coordinate your healthcare needs and to answer questions about illnesses, injuries, or other health concerns. All calls to Dial-A-Nurse are confidential and recorded in the students electronic health record (EHR) at McKinley Health Center.
- HealthiestYou (telecounseling & telehealth) is available to students covered under the UnitedHealthcare Student Resources plan.

Familiarize yourself with the Student Insurance website. This is where you will:
- Access your Insurance Card
- Extend your coverage
- Waive / Opt-out
- Add dependents
The Board of Trustees requires all eligible students to have health insurance coverage for the duration of their time at the University. UnitedHealthcare Student Resources underwrites the University sponsored plan, which is assessed automatically at the beginning of each semester in which the eligible student has registered for classes. Participating students receive comprehensive coverage that includes extremely low deductibles which meets all Affordable Care Act requirements. More information can be found on the Student Insurance website.
Students who already have comparable coverage may opt out of the Student Health insurance plan once per academic year and have the fee refunded by submitting an approved online waiver. If the student does not opt out by the deadline of the enrollment/change period, they will be automatically enrolled in the insurance and the Student Health Insurance Fee will no longer be refunded.
Participating students receive coverage they can extend into non-registered semesters such as summer.
Insurance cards are accessible 24/7 using the online MyAccount system.
Dental Insurance
Dental insurance provided through UnitedHealthcare Student Resources is available to graduate students enrolled in on-campus graduate degree programs. Graduate students holding waiver-generating appointments are enrolled at no additional cost in the custom plan. Others may enroll themselves or their dependents in the voluntary plan by paying the annual premium.
See details on the Student Insurance website.
Vision Insurance
Vision insurance provided through EyeMed is available to graduate students enrolled in on-campus graduate degree programs.
