Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

Teaching Assistants in French in Italian serve as instructors of record for a section of French or Italian Basic Language.  Classes are capped at 20 students and meet Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs. Instructors follow an assigned calendar and materials and plan for individual lessons four days a week. They grade homework, hold office hours, communicate with students, attend course meetings, and contribute to teaching materials (like exams, quizzes, and lesson banks) as needed. 

We have a limited number of positions available in both French and Italian for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Advanced Proficiency in French OR Italian
  • Completion or concurrent enrollment in FR/ITAL 505, Teaching Secondary and Collegiate French and Italian [credit/no-credit enrollment is accepted]

Teaching experience is not required and training is offered prior to the semester and through concurrent enrollment in the language teaching methods course. However, experience with teaching or tutoring or any coursework related to teaching and learning are a plus.

Compensation

Teaching Assistants are appointed at 33% for teaching one class per semester or 50% for teaching three sections during the academic year. Salaries will follow the posted graduate salary scale.
