Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

BIOE 420: Intro to Biological Control Systems – FA 2026

This course focuses on characterizing, designing, and simulation of control systems, with applications in human physiology. The structure of the course is a lecture-based course with homework assignments, quizzes, exams, and a final group project. Students will work primarily with Matlab and Simulink, with programming exercises using the Arduino microcontroller as a deployment architecture for the code written in Matlab. 

TA's will be expected to assist with troubleshooting student software issues and grading of homework and quizzes, most of which will center around Matlab and Arduino.

Recommended Skills:

  • Differential Equations
  • Laplace transforms (primarily to solve systems of differential equations)
  • Control systems (block diagrams, feedback, PID, stability analysis, Bode plots, etc)
  • Linear algebra/linear systems for solving state space equations

Compensation

This is a 25% TA (10 hrs / week) for the fall term.
