Graduate Student Professional Development Week

Monday, February 20 - Friday, February 24, 2023

Join us for a series of events dedicated to helping you succeed in grad school and beyond. Grab some lunch, grab a seat, and make time for your professional development!

Every day at noon.

These workshops start at noon, do not require registration, and will be available through Zoom at https://go.grad.illinois.edu/eventspace. Workshops are not recorded.

Data Analysis with Excel (Monday, 2/20)

Learn how to use Excel to perform basic data analysis, including wrangling, cleaning, and visualization. In this hands-on workshop, participants will follow along in Excel using a provided dataset on their own devices. All are welcome, but those comfortable with data analytics tools and methods in general or Excel, in particular, may benefit from a more advanced workshop.

Publish Your Videos with Mediaspace (Tuesday, 2/21)

Mediaspace is a YouTube-like service that allows grad students to post and share videos, and you can use it to promote your research, teaching, or outreach. This workshop will cover what you need to know to get started publishing with Mediaspace.

time management for grad school (WEDNESDAY, 2/22)

Juggling graduate school, work, professional commitments, and personal life is a daunting task! This workshop will discuss strategies to help you best manage your time, prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and avoid procrastination.

Data Analysis with Python (THURSday, 2/23)

Use Python to perform basic data analysis, including wrangling, cleaning, and visualization. In this hands-on workshop, participants will follow along in Python using a provided dataset on their own devices. We'll use Google Colab as our Python environment; Colab comes as part of Drive, so there’s no need to download special software. You are welcome to use whatever environment you’d like. All are welcome, but those comfortable with data analytics tools and methods in general or Python, in particular, may benefit from a more advanced workshop.

VALUES-BASED CAREER DECISION-MAKING (FRIDAY, 2/24)

Success and satisfaction in your career (during and beyond grad school) depends on making sure your work is aligned with what really matters to you. But how well do you know what that is? This interactive workshop will guide you through the process of identifying your core values and using them to calibrate your work so you feel fulfilled in the near- and long-term. You'll leave equipped to more effectively assess opportunities and make better decisions going forward.

If you require any disability related accommodations to participate in this workshop more fully, please email gradsuccess@Illinois.edu.
